1985 Topps Garbage Pail Kids Original Series 1
Original chase-driven non-sport wax of the era
Why it matters
Garbage Pail Kids Original Series 1 launched the subcultural chase-card economy that anticipated the modern insert era by five years. The set featured 82 cards printed in two variants each (a-side and b-side, with different artwork on the same character), a mechanic that turned a sticker set into a scavenger hunt. Adam Bomb #8a became the visual anchor of the entire GPK phenomenon and the highest-value single from the box. BBCE-authenticated sealed 1985 Topps GPK OS1 wax boxes have strong pricing in absolute terms, particularly for high-grade first-printing (Matte) copies. Ranked #16 not on price but on scope: GPK is a subcultural specialty pick rather than a mainstream sports-hobby flagship. It belongs in the The Sealed Wax as the definitive non-sport entry point of the era, but it does not sit next to the baseball and football wax that defined the hobby's economic center.
