The Junk Wax Museum has three non-sport slots and this is the one that anchors modern comic cards. The 1990 Impel Marvel Universe Series 1 is the foundational modern Marvel card set, the release that turned Marvel IP into a card economy separate from the sports hobby. Spider-Man #29 is the character-flagship base card in the set, the primary Spider-Man portrait the whole hologram-chase economy was built on top of. It belongs in the JW50 as the anchor of the non-sport comic wing and the point where Marvel cards became a serious hobby category. The 1992 SkyBox Marvel Masterpieces Spider-Man #87 elsewhere in the museum is the premium painted-art follow-up; #29 here is the origin.

Marvel cards. Not baseball, not football, not GPK, Marvel. This was the set that made comic-book kids realize their heroes could be traded like Griffey rookies. Every wall of every card shop had this set displayed. Kids ripped Impel Marvel Universe packs looking for the Spider-Man hologram, and #29 was the primary Spider-Man base card everybody kept in the front of the binder. Impel Marvel Universe 1990 was the summer comic-book kids joined the hobby, and this card was the reason they stayed.

Impel produced the 1990 Marvel Universe Series 1 set with full Marvel Comics licensing at a moment when nobody had made a modern mass-produced comic card set. The 162-card base checklist ran through the Marvel roster in character-focused card format, and the accompanying MH1-MH5 hologram inserts (Spider-Man, Wolverine, Silver Surfer, Magneto, and the Cosmic Spider-Man) created the first modern comic-card chase economy. Spider-Man #29 is the character-flagship base card. Impel followed with 1991 Series 2 and 1992 Series 3, expanding the format. The whole modern Marvel card era, up to and including today's Panini and Upper Deck Marvel releases, traces back to this set. Overproduced like all 1990 non-sport, so raw copies stay cheap, but the cultural weight is enormous.

Base #29 is the character-flagship Spider-Man card in the 162-card 1990 Impel Marvel Universe Series 1 set. Spider-Man also appears earlier at #2 (a secondary base card), as the #30 Cosmic Spider-Man variant, and as the MH1 hologram chase which is the marquee insert of the set (roughly five holograms per box, with MH1 Spider-Man the most collected). Multiple Spider-Man Presents subset cards also exist across the checklist. Impel followed with Series 2 (1991) and Series 3 (1992). Confirming the 1990 Series 1 issue (not the follow-up years) is essential for value.
