Impel was the non-sports card manufacturer that turned holograms into the era's defining chase-card mechanic. The 1990 Marvel Universe Series 1 five-hologram set, including the Cosmic Spider-Man MH5, set the template for every insert set that followed. Impel folded its trading card unit into SkyBox in 1993, but the 'holo chase' template it invented became the dominant sports card chase mechanic for the next thirty years.
