Why it matters

1992 Impel X-Men Series 1 wax is the shrine of the Jim Lee X-Men art era. Wolverine at #2 (JW50 anchor) is the set's marquee, and every base card features Jim Lee character illustrations at the peak of his mainstream comic career. The box also contains the five hologram inserts (Wolverine, Cyclops, Storm, Colossus, Magneto) inserted at approximately 1 per box. Sealed wax remains affordable but the specificity of the Jim Lee art era gives it a specialist collector premium.

How to identify

1992 Impel X-Men Series 1 wax box, 36 packs. Distinguish from the 1993 SkyBox X-Men Series 2 (SkyBox acquired Impel between the two products). Original Impel branding is on the wrapper. Look for the five hologram inserts (approximately 1 per box).
